IN MY DOC’S: BETH

We love to shine a spotlight on the diverse people who work in our stores and head office because they’re the ones who really ‘live’ the rebellious, unique Dr. Martens brand… and know how to seriously rock a pair of Doc’s of course.

Meet Beth, Doc’s enthusiast and Women’s Assistant Footwear Designer here in our Camden HQ. We spoke with her to find out more about her relationship with Dr. Martens, love of pop music and what she stands for…

Introduce yourself:
I’m Beth, I’m the Women’s Assistant Footwear Designer, but before I was offered this position I started out as the Footwear Intern in 2014. I then went on to work in our Oxford Street Store whilst I was doing my final year at London College of Fashion in Footwear Design.

What Dr. Martens shoes are you wearing in your now?
I’m wearing our Steel Toe 1461s from a few seasons ago with heart kilties and a rainbow leather sticker. I’m a sucker for customising my shoes.

Tell us about your first Dr. Martens:
I was fairly old when I broke my Doc’s virginity, around 19 – a hairy, tartan Castel boot. I still have them but I’m not so much of a classic 1460 boot wearer anymore. I love a more masculine shoe, my favourite pair is a vintage style I bought off Etsy with a big square toe, loads of padding and a chunky sole.

How would you describe your style?
I’ve become a bit more ‘grown up’ since I came back to head office, so baggy trousers and a simple bright top, but give me something shiny or some glitter and I’ll sprinkle that stuff everywhere. I’m really loving gold lipstick at the moment.

List three tracks you can’t get enough of:
I’m so into bubblegum pop, but I’m proud of it.
1. Work From Home – Fifth Harmony
2. Runaway (U & I) – Galantis
3. So What – P!nk

What’s your favourite thing about the city you live in?
I’ve been in London for 5 years now, and honestly I don’t really have a favourite place, as long as I’m with fun company. If I had to pick one, it would be Clissold Park in Stoke Newington, it’s really pretty and great for a walk. The Clapton Hart pub in Clapton is great too – they do a really tasty sausage roll too.

If you could meet anyone dead or alive who would it be, and why?
P!nk, I love her because she gives off this rock ‘n’ roll attitude, plus her live shows look amazing. And she’s not shy of a bit of glitter.

What are your top 3 product picks for this season?
1. Zuma Suede boots – I designed these when I was interning.
2. Jacy shoe in white – Such a cute shoe with a tough sole.
3. Hayden sandal in tan – I love a classic brown shoe.

If you could have any super-power, what would it be?
To have the ability to re-fill things – you’re thirsty, re-fill your drink. Magic.

And finally, what do you stand for?
Don’t conform and be confident – it’s always worked for me.
