Heidi.

HEIDI

What’s your name and what do you do at Dr. Martens?
Heidi, I’m Store Manager at Dr. Martens Camden.

What drew you to the Dr. Martens brand?
Ever since I got my first pair of DM’s I have practically lived in them and I genuinely love the brand. The Camden store is also a unique opportunity to really experience the brand (for staff and customers alike) and a great environment to work in.

What’s your favourite part of the new store?
The Boot Room and various pieces of music memorabilia on display there. I also love the fact that the store has its own stage and can host gigs, DJ sets and other events.

Do you remember your first pair of Doc’s?
Absolutely! They were a second hand pair of black 1460s I bought when I moved to London in the late 1990s.

What are your favourite new season Doc’s?
The Made For Camden range is super cool and exclusive to the Camden store. I also love the collaborations such as the Beavis & Butt-Head one, which you can find in stores now.

What can we hear on the jukebox at DM’s Camden?
Come have a listen!

What are your top tips for Camden (apart from the store)?
The Constitution in the summer for lunch and drinks by the canal and they host fun events too. The Dublin Castle and the Black Heart are great for gigs and general debauchery.

What do you stand for?
I stand for adventure and integrity.

Dollie.

DOLLIE

What’s your name and what do you do at Dr. Martens?
Hi I’m Dollie, I’m Assistant Manager at the Camden Store.

What drew you to the Dr. Martens brand?
Dr. Martens is the top brand to join as an alternative person.

What’s your favourite part of the new store?
Favorite part: the women and kids area its very pretty and always busy.

Do you remember your first pair of Doc’s?
My first pair of Doc’s was red 1460 secondhand boots I bought off a friend. They were two 2 sizes too big as it was almost impossible to order from Nice (France) at that time.
Then, I went to London at 16 on a school trip and bought my 10 holes, steel toe cap black boots which I always kept buying regularly.

What are your favourite new season Doc’s?
I love the Made for Camden ones because they have all you want – from looks and quality.

What can we hear on the jukebox at DM’s Camden?
It’s really eclectic from Ramones, UK subcultures to Blur etc…

What are your top tips for Camden (apart from the store)?
Check the cool pubs:
Devonshire Arms for gothic/ punk/ Metal vibes.
Worlds End for Rock.
Black Heart for gigs and good beers.

And finally, what do you stand for?
I just like being true to myself, never faking it!

TIM

What’s your name and what do you do at Dr Martens?
Hello! I’m Tim and I’m one of three senior sales assistants at the Dr Martens Camden store. As well as this, I occasionally get involved with the marketing team taking photos at various events that happen inside and outside of London.

What drew you to the Dr. Martens brand?
When I started at Dr. Martens I was primarily a music photographer so Dr. Martens gripped me with how much they got involved in the music scene. It was also the job that helped me escape my home town of Bracknell, Berkshire and move to the capital.

What’s your favourite part of the new store?
Up on the first floor I really like the personalisation corner where you can personalise your own pair of specially made Docs’, get one of our team members to help you make a key-ring with equipment actually used in the factory, and where we set up artists to customize a pair in their own special way.

Do you remember your first pair of Doc’s?
My first pair of Doc’s were a pair of 1460 For Life boots in black. I was quite late in the game at aged 20/ 21. I knew I wanted a pair of classics but I couldn’t bear the thought of going through the breaking in process I’d heard so much about. After speaking to a few friends and the people in the shop, I decided upon the For Life as the leather is super soft and doesn’t take long to break in at all.

What are your favourite new season Doc’s?
My favourite pair from this season has got to be the Made in England 1461 Stingray. I love the distinctive-ness of the leather and the fact that it is paired up the classic yellow stitching and smoked grey sole.

What are your top tips for Camden (apart from the store)?
Definitely take advantage of the food market. Two weeks into working here and I feel like I haven’t even scratched the surface of what it has to offer.

What do you stand for?
I stand for a pair of good quality denim. And a good time.

Amber.

AMBER

What’s your name and what do you do at Dr. Martens?
I’m Amber and I’m the in-store Events & VM Manager at our new Camden store. You can find me at all of our events in the DMs Boot Room, making sure they’re running smoothly and often Dad dancing along to whatever band or DJ are taking the stage. I also run the Personalisation service we offer in the store, where you get the chance to design your own pair of boots.

What drew you to the Dr. Martens brand?
What other brand can say that they have been worn by the most diverse crowd of crazies, creatives and free thinkers of note from the 60s until now? That, and at 5″3, the extra height they give me is always a bonus.

What’s your favourite part of the new store?
The DMs Boot Room of course! It’s amazing how that room can go from heritage museum to fully fledged gig space in a matter of minutes, and I’m really looking forward to having a band in there that will turn it into the little sweat box venue I know it can be.

Do you remember your first pair of Doc’s?
I was 16 when I bought my first pair of 1461 Black Smooth shoes. They were too big for me and actually came off of my feet at a number of frantic gigs in the halcyon days of ‘09. But that didn’t stop me from wearing them every day for about four years. They look pretty disgusting now, but I can’t bring myself to get rid of them.

What are your favourite new season Doc’s?
The Monet boot in DMs Yellow. Comfy, loud and amazing with a pair of wide legged trousers.

What can we hear on the jukebox at DM’s Camden?
A real mix of genres and sounds! My go-to album to put on is probably Curve of the Earth by Mystery Jets. I was lucky enough to see the album launch a couple of years ago after we had the chaps from the band in my store, it’s a beautiful record.

What are your top tips for Camden (apart from the store)?
My favourite places in Camden are the places you can find a moment of quiet away from the madness! In the Summer it’s Hampstead Heath ladies pond, in the Winter it’s a pint, some records and a sossy roll at The Southampton Arms.

What do you stand for?
I stand for those that can’t stand for themselves.

  • I’m Belgian. Two weeks ago I was helped in the Camden shop by a slightly red haired seller with a long skirt and 90’s style jeans jacket. She was extremely friendly. It was her first day! She was wearing Dr. Martens shoes from her mum – they were 26 years old! But I forgot to ask your name, unfortunately.
