10 THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT OUR NEW CAMDEN FLAGSHIP STORE

Tuesday 11th April sees us open our brand new store in the heart of Camden Market (right after our birthday which was on 1st April). Camden is the spiritual home of Dr. Martens – the popular cultural destination has so many connections to music and fashion and that’s what our brand is all about.

Trust us when we say, you’re gonna want to visit this store, a lot of thought has gone into making it more than just a shop. It’s pretty mind-blowing (if we do say so ourselves). If you need more convincing, then read on to find out more about Dr. Martens Camden.

1. IT’S REALLY, REALLY OLD
Our new store is located in one of the oldest parts of the Camden Market. The building was once used as a tack room for re-shoeing horses. We’ve taken great care to protect the integrity of the building and its heritage, while putting our Doc’s foot print on it.

2. THERE’S A GIG VENUE INSIDE
The DM’s Boot Room is a gig space with a souped-up sound-system, amplified by our friends at Marshall, where we’ll be hosting one-off gigs and performances. Expect rock, rap, reggae… and the rest. Keep checking back for listings as we’ll be putting on live shows and DJ sets regularly throughout the year.

3. THERE’LL BE DJ’S, MUSICIANS AND MORE EVERY WEEK
Our online radio partners Mixcloud know a thing or two about music. We’ll be collaborating with them on a calendar of the best bands, hottest DJs and under-the-radar singers and performers. Plus, if you miss an event, you can catch up with what went down online on our blog.

4. AND A FULLY STOCKED BAR
Thanks to the guys from Jack Daniels whiskey and Brew Dog beer, gig-goers will be kept well-lubricated at events.

5. YOU CAN SEE MEMORABILIA FROM YOUR FAVOURITE BANDS
Dr. Martens musical legacy is vast, we’ve been seen on the feet of everyone from Pete Townsend and Joe Strummer to Beyoncé, Miley and beyond. In our Camden store you can take a trip through counter-cultural history and see one-of-a-kind items donated by Pauline Black, Twin Atlantic and Slaves to name but a few.

6. TAKE A VIRTUAL REALITY TOUR AROUND OUR ORIGINAL FACTORY
Dr. Martens still makes a range of footwear in our original Cobbs Lane Factory, the Made in England range is crafted using the same techniques the first pair of DM’s were made with. Powered by Oculus, you can put on a VR headset and enjoy a 360 tour around the factory floor. Seeing just how Doc’s are made like no other shoe on earth.

7. WE’VE GOT A FREE GIF MACHINE
Photo booths are so last century – capture your time in our store with our GIF booth. It’s completely free and and a lot of fun. You can then save your GIF to your smartphone or share on social media with #drmartensstyle.

8. THERE’S VERY EXCLUSIVE MADE FOR CAMDEN BOOTS AND SHOES
We had to mark the occasion of DM’s coming home to Camden by creating some very special products inspired by the customised DM’s often seen around the area. These shoes, boots and accessories will only be available in the Camden store, and we think you’ll agree they look great.

9. YOU CAN DESIGN YOUR OWN PAIR OF DOC’S THERE
Yes, yes, you can now play designer and personalise your very own pair of bespoke Dr. Martens. Head to the personalisation bar in-store, think like Vivienne Westwood, or your preferred fashion figure, and get creative. You can select the leather, colour, laces and trimmings. Mix and match, go wild, make your Doc’s your own.

10. YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN KEYRING HERE
Using a machine from our original Cobbs Lane factory in Northamptonshire, you can get your craftsman on and emboss your very own leather key-ring. Souvenirs don’t come better than this.
