AMIRA: #WORNDIFFERENT

Singer and stylist Amira hails from London originally and got her big break in girl group Neon Jungle at the tender age of 17. She’s now solo and has cultivated a dedicated online following who are enraptured by her stellar personal style. Her unique look, tattoos, tough attitude and creative talents have got us hooked. Read on to see how she styles the Aimlita fur-lined boot and how she embodies #WORNDIFFERENT…

Dr. Martens: For those who may not know, can you describe what you do?
Amira: I’m a sometime celebrity stylist with my partner and before that I was a pop star in a girl band called Neon Jungle. Currently I’m in the studio working on an exciting new [music] project, it’s quite different to what I’ve done before so I’m really excited.

How did you get your start in your career?
I was scouted in Westfield.

Someone just came up to me and asked ‘can you sing?’ so I said yes.

Wow, we didn’t think that actually happened in real life.
Yeah, I mean it was a one in a million chance. Right time, right place. Someone just came up to me and asked ‘can you sing?’ so I said yes and then it just went from there. I was put in a band with three other girls at a really young age and had a great career off the back of it.

What’s been your career highlight so far?
It was quite surreal being put into a girl band so young and it took off really quickly. We performed at the Victoria’s Secret runway show which has millions of viewers worldwide. I do remember once being in the same room as Beyoncé and thinking “this is it”.

And how did you get into styling from a music career?
I was dating a [well] known stylist and she was like “you have a unique style, you should get into [styling] too”.

Style is about not being afraid.

How would you describe your personal style?
It’s a mix of everything. I’m not afraid to wear something outrageous, or something that might look a bit “eh?” at first. Style is about not being afraid.

How did you enjoy your #WORNDIFFERENT shoot?
It was one of the most enjoyable shoots I’ve ever done. In between getting photos done I was having a laugh with [fellow campaign star] Paigey cakey. I loved that everyone had their own unique look. I mean, it was hard work, but a lot of fun.

What do you stand for?
Freedom. In every sense of the word. Whatever that means to you.
