For AW16 Dr. Martens have created a collection that celebrates the work of Giovanni Di Paolo – one of the 15th century’s most important Italian Renaissance painters. Giovanni Di Paolo is best known for one of his earliest works of art “The Annunciation”. Depicting The Archangel Gabriel kneeling before the Virgin Mary offering her a lily, the symbol of purity and bringing with him the Lord’s salutation. Key elements from his paintings have been selected and printed onto iconic Dr. Martens styles: The 8-eye Pascal boot, the 3-eye 1461 shoe and backpack, all offered in black leather with bold iconography print. Sitting alongside these are two black t-shirts with printed sleeves and an all over print and a sheer cotton scarf.
