We’re big fans of Steffi Lynn. She’s the Brooklyn-based illustrator and artist behind Have A Nice Day, a shop full of products highlighting her distinctive hand-lettering style. It’s the kind of art that lends itself well to personalization — in fact, she’s already customized a pair of classic 1460 Smooths for us. And now that it’s the season of giving, we figured her hand- drawn typography easily translates to the craft of gift-wrapping, too. We were right: not only does Steffi love to take wrapping to the next level, she was willing to show us how she’d wrap up a pair of Docs — and share a few tips at the same time.
Who will you be gifting the Docs to?
I have a few badass women that would really rock these but I think my mom! She will be excited about these for sure!
Are the holidays fun for you — do you love wrapping gifts in general?
I LOVE the holidays! I love the idea of family and friends coming together and showing their appreciation for one another. I really enjoy gifting and that’s why I try to keep my shop as personable as possible. I hand write all my orders and try and pack each order like a present, so when the customer receives it, it feels more like a gift than just a purchased item.
Have you ever considered gift-wrapping as a side job?
Honestly, that would be amazing. I’ve always joked about how if I could wrap gifts for a living, I would do it forever!
Where’d you find all the elements that went into this gift?
I got my tissue paper customized from the best: @noissue! The ribbons and iridescent wrapping paper are from Michaels, and I had my iridescent gift tags special-made laser cut.
What kind of paint pens do you use?
I love DecoColor oil paint markers, and Posca and Molotow markers are also a favorite — but they are acrylic.
Any hand-lettering tricks you can share with us?
Don’t be afraid to try new “connections” and “flows” that is not traditional lettering.
