IN MY DOC’S: BROOKE FEINBERG

Welcome to In My Doc’s – the feature where we shine a spotlight on the very cool people who work in our stores and headquarters. Why? Well, because they’re the ones who really ‘live’ the rebellious, unique Dr. Martens brand … and know how to seriously rock a pair of Doc’s of course.

In this installment, we spoke to Brooke Feinberg, the Dr. Martens Boston store manager. True to the spirit of Dr. Martens, Brooke is heavily involved in Boston’s music scene, and has some standout style. Read on to discover more about Brooke’s look, her dedication to social activism and her epic collection of Doc’s.

Tell us about yourself and your hobbies.

I am originally from Pittsburgh and moved to Boston more than 18 years ago. I spend my time at social justice rallies, scooting around on my bike, and traipsing around local music venues. The communities of activists, artists, and musicians and those who gather around them are special. It’s great to see DMs flooding the streets at rallies and gracing the stages at shows. I really enjoy monthly meetings with my feminist book club called Talking Circles, and volunteering with kids at Girls Rock Campaign Boston.

How would you describe your style?

The term “fashion statement” has become quite literal for me lately — when I’m not sporting a T-shirt or pins with social justice statements or imagery, I look like Red Fraggle invaded Cyndi Lauper’s closet from 1984.

Brooke wears the 101 Harvest.
Tell us about what you’re wearing.

My pants are inspired by Pablo Picasso’s Girl Before a Mirror. My little black denim vest has affectionately been dubbed my “adult scout vest.” I’ve covered it with patches from Girls Rock Campaign, pins for civil rights movements, and local artists like Thrust Club. I love styling my Dr. Martens with our black and gold industrial laces – they’re a nod to our signature yellow welt stitch when rocking Doc’s that don’t feature it.

Which Dr. Martens are your current favorites?

My apartment is like a deep archeological dig of countless pairs, but I have a special place in my heart for the Church boot (I own both classic colors), the 1460 Arcadia (because no two pairs are the same and that color goes with everything), and my customized 1460 Black Smooth “marching boots”- they’ve seen many miles from DC to Boston to Cambridge rallying for Women’s Rights, Trans/Immigrant solidarity, Black Lives Matter and other important social justice causes.

Tell us about your first pair of Doc’s.

My first pair was a black 8065 style mary jane. I’ve had them for 23 years. DMs are timeless. Sometimes I wear my Mary Janes with a corduroy jumper that I have had since then, too. I can be a bit of a hoarder.

Tell us about your involvement with the local music scene.

I take drum lessons and practice with my band, Radium Girls, every week, and we gig around town once a month or so. I am also lucky enough to be on the nominating committee for the Boston Music Awards. It was amazing to see nationally renowned, local rock-stars like Carissa Johnson and Weakened Friends donning Doc’s on the big stage at the recent awards ceremony.

What are some of your go-to places in Boston?

I love spending time with my motley crew of fabulous musician, artist, social worker, and educator pals at eccentric and funky music venues like Toad and Once Lounge.

What three songs are you listening to right now?

Freedom Fighter by Ruby Rose Fox
Family by The Blue Ribbons
Take it in Stride by Abbie Barrett

  • Why aren’t you making the 1460 soft buck black boots anymore? I’ve tried all over to get some and was told you’re no longer making them! Please bring them back!!! They’re awesome!!!
