DR. MARTENS DOES HELLFEST 2019

Continuing our rampage round this summer’s independent festival circuit, we recently landed at the incredible Hellfest Festival in France.

Founded in 2006 and taking place each summer in the western French town of Clisson, Hellfest is one of Europe’s biggest and most respected rock, metal and punk festivals. With a huge line up of metal/thrash giants including Slayer, Anthrax and Tool, Hellfest has also become renowned for its spectacular production that sees the site transformed with enormous staging, imposing pyrotechnics and all manner of other impressive structures and installations.
This year Dr. Martens were on site lacing up the lively crowd with not only fresh Docs, but breathing new life into their festival faithful pairs with our unique customisation service.
Check out the wrap-up video, and see our highlights below.

Our pop-up store inspired by the legendary store fronts of Camden High Street attracted a huge crowd all weekend to try out some of our special experiences exclusive to the Hellfest site.
Our free Docs customisation was crafted by two different artists: La Renarde, who engraved designs onto Docs, and Les Cireurs who cut out stencils and stamped in designs/cut outs onto leather, both creating truly bespoke DM’s for the fans.
Everything from our classic 1460, and 1461 to our Vegan styles and 2976 were given a DIY DOCS treatment.

We also set up a private barbershop backstage where artists  and their crew dropped in for free haircuts and beard trims, our DM’s photobooth and VR experience proved popular attractions…

…as was the exhibition of customised boots by 5 different artists which will be sold at auction to benefit the marine wildlife conservation organisation Sea Shepherd France.
With music running through our veins it was only right that we took care of some of our favourite performers throughout the weekend. Some of the bands who dropped by to lace up in some gifted DM’s included Nova Twins
…who took to the stage in our archive-classic Church boots and Rainbow Patent Jadons.
We also had visits from No Fun at All, Refused, Me First & the Gimme Gimmes, Mad Sin, Insanity Alert  and The Interrupters, pictured below in some Docs classics.
Hellfest is without a doubt one of the most unique and electrifying festivals in Europe so if you love all things loud then put it in your diary for June 2020, we’ll see you there.
