DR. MARTENS SPEAKS TO BOY HARSHER

Augustus Muller and Jae Matthews make up the dark electronic duo, BOY HARSHER. And with them, they bring an electronic sound, gritty beats, and intense vocals like nothing you’ve ever heard before. The sound can be described as eerie, intense, beautiful. The end result… infectiously dance-y industrial jams.

The pair brought dark waves to our DM’s Boot Room, and Boy Harsher stunned the crowd on the chilly Sunday evening with their signature techno inspired electronica. Our friends over at Mixcloud sat down with Augustus Muller and Jae Matthews, who shared stories of how their signature sound came to be. We caught up with the duo below…

For those who don’t know Boy Harsher, how would you sum yourselves and your sound up in one sentence?
Sad dance music.

How did you find performing in such an intimate venue, having just played the DM’s Boot Room?
We love playing intimate shows, the connection with the audience is tangible. If the audience is willing to trust you and the show, then it’s a very cool experience.

Three tracks you’re listening to right now:
Patrick Cowley – Furlough
In Trance 95 – Something Better Than Nothing
Hans Joachim-Roedelius – Poetry

What’s your favourite thing about the city you live in?
We live in the country. Time moves much slower. There is plenty of space to think.
We miss the city, but appreciate the privacy.

What’s next for Boy Harsher?
We’ll spend the winter writing and recording our next album. In March we are going on tour in NA with The Soft Moon, which is truly an honour.

And finally, what do you stand for?
We stand for honesty and kindness + cinematic music.

“Motion,” the first single from their EP Country Girl, is the kind of dance song that grabs you be the lapels and screams at you to move it. – Pitchfork
