Dr. Martens caught up with Bradford-based new kids on the block Fling after their performance on our Dr. Martens Presents stage at Live at Leeds 2017. We talk all things inspiration, and whats to come from Fling with drummer Billy, and guitarist Jack. Read more below…
For those who don’t know Fling, how would you describe yourselves up in a sentence?
There was a review written about us which described us as ‘whimsical pop’ – we’ve always quite liked that description, but I’d be tempted to add our slightly punkier attributes to the description too!
You’ve just released ‘Annie’, can you talk us through the inspiration behind this?
Well the lyrics were written mostly by Charlie, they were about a girl at the time but I suppose you could relate to any of the romantic relationships people have with one another. So yeah I guess it’s inspired by those emotions you feel at the time.
You must be excited to play on the Dance To The Radio Stage at Leeds Festival this year? What else have you got in store for the year ahead?
Yeah I know we are all looking forward to playing Leeds fest, not as much as we are looking forward to headlining though. The tour is coming up in October too which is gonna be amazing. Pretty much anytime we can get out of our day jobs and be together is something we look forward to.
Tell us about your first Dr. Martens:
I’m not sure about the tale behind everyone’s first Doc’s, but I’m pretty sure they still own and wear their first pair still to this day. I inherited mine from my big brother and still wear them!
What’s your favourite thing about the city you live in?
We all live in Bradford at the moment and one of the things we love about it is the massive range of cultures and the diversity it has.
And finally, what do you stand for?
We stand for expression and being yourself, peace, love and having a good time.
