DR. MARTENS SPEAKS TO FLOHIO

Meet Flohio, the Bermondsey-born, 24 year old rapper who’s about to blow. Last month, Flohio was joined by British electronic artist Blue Daisy for a live gig at our very own DM’s Boot Room in Camden. Online music channel, Just Jam also joined us on the evening, adding a unique twist to the performance by curating a series of  psychedelic visuals, which were manipulated and remixed in their chaotic signature style. Since releasing her debut EP ‘Nowhere Near last year, things are only looking up for the London MC. We sat down to talk everything from musical influences to first her pair of Doc’s…

22 year old South London rapper, Flohio explains the influences of growing up in SE16.

For those who don’t know Flohio, how would you sum yourself up in a sentence?

I’m a messenger of good energy.

Can you talk us through the inspiration behind your song, ‘SE16’?

The inspiration came from appreciating my community, SE16. The growth & certain knowledge I’ve achieved so far comes from the experiences I’ve been through either with friends, family, on my own or the strangers I’ve had an encounter with.

Tell us about your first Dr. Martens:

Haha. My first pair were actually a gift from Dr. Martens, and I love them very much. Thank you.

Three tracks you’re listening to right now?

1. CHIP – Snap Snap

2. Vince Staples – 745

3. Raury – Trap Tears

Your music is heavily attached to South London. What makes it so special?

Like SE16 it’s the appreciation, it’s where I’m at right now. The more I explore and see around then there will be a change of surroundings that’s a whole new different vibe, it brings a different energy to the music. I’ll still drop a South bar here and there though.

“Consistency, hard work & have faith. Push forward.”

What advice would you give to someone trying to break into your industry?

Consistency, hard work & have faith. Push forward.

So, whats next up for Flohio? Any tours or gigs you’re looking forward to?

Next up is to work on some more music.

And finally, what do you stand for?

I stand for fairness, kindness, peace, freedom, creativity, loyalty & happiness
