You may know New York City style blogger Rachel Iwanyszyn by her Instagram handle, @jaglever, or even recognize her from our Instagram feed. We know her because she has one of the best Dr. Martens boot collections and plenty of style to match. For the holiday season, we asked Rachel to show us how she’s styling the Leona boot. The result? A slick little Leona lookbook serving up some serious holiday vibes, thanks to some festive NYC locations. Grab yourself some hot chocolate and check it out.
Hello! I’m a Michigan born gal who studied photography in Chicago and then moved to Brooklyn. I began blogging in 2009 on Tumblr just for fun and then started sharing daily outfits. Nine years later I am blogging fulltime and living in New York City. Life is wild and unexpected!
What are your favorite trends for this holiday season?
I’m really loving the faux fur “teddy bear” coats as well as shimmery long skirts. Usually, I don’t like skirts or much shimmer, but I suddenly love it!
Tell us about the looks you styled with the Leona.
I first styled the Leona with a cute, neutral suspender skirt with a subtle check pattern, a classic white tee, and a burgundy oversized cardigan, to match the color of the boots and bring a pop to the look.
For the second look, I wore a lace button up underneath a motif sweater, paired with green trousers. This look is more for the badass that rolls up casually late to their holiday plans.
The third look is dressier with a shimmery holiday dress. This one is definitely more for the cutesy gal who still has some edge and has great taste in boots, obviously!
What is your go-to look for the holidays?
Every year is different for me. I go through phases where I want to be more grunge or some years I want my inner Zoey Deschanel to shine and dress cute/nerdy. I’ve really been all over the place with my style over the years! I hate planning outfits ahead of time. I have to dress in the moment.
What are your top 3 picks for the winter season?
The Holly Patent because they’re cute and have a platform, the Pascal Vintage boot (it is my holy grail of boots I wear them almost every day) and the Vegan Backpack – it’s so gorgeous!
What is your favorite thing to do in New York during the holidays?
Ice skating is hands down my favorite thing to do. Bryant Park has lots of winter festivities and it’s so, so cute. I also love the giant ornaments near Rockefeller and, of course, the tree! This year, I enjoyed going to pick out a tree with my boyfriend, Chris. It was really lovely and we decorated it while listening to Christmas music like my family does back in Michigan. It felt so magical!
