DR. MARTENS SPEAKS TO JERRY WILLIAMS

Dr. Martens spoke to emerging indie-pop singer Jerry Williams ahead of her gig at British Summer Time Festival this Saturday 9th July. Find out more about the inspiration behind her music and her relationship with Dr. Martens below: 
 

 
 
For those who don’t know you, how would you sum yourself up in a sentence?
20 year old girl who loves writing songs about life and growing up. NOT the 74 year old Swedish rock star Jerry Williams I usually get confused with haha. 
 
Tell us about your first Dr. Martens:
I remember they opened a shop near me and I was so excited! My first pair were a pair of Maroon original shoes, I’ve worn/danced/walked them to death. 
 
Can you talk us through the inspiration behind your song ‘Mother’?
I was kind of going through a time where I just really wasn’t feeling myself. I kind of felt a bit lost and I remember talking to my mum about it. So I guess that’s what the songs about, wanting to get back to how you felt before.

What’s your favourite thing about the city you live in?
The sea! I love living by the beach in Portsmouth and going for drives along it, listening to music. It’s so relaxing. I mention drives and beaches a lot in my songs. 
 

 
 
What advice would you give to someone trying to break into the music industry?
Just be true to yourself, write songs you can believe in and work hard. You’re going to have hard days and let downs but keep focused on the future. 
 
And finally, what do you stand for?
I stand for working hard, being who you want to be, having a laugh, and not being afraid to aim for what you want to succeed.
