Can you walk us through your motivation behind what you created for our new DM’s Lite product?
Over the years of wearing Dr. Martens, crowd surfing and jumping off of things at shows, it was slightly harder to get air time since the original Doc’s were a bit heavy. So when I received the new DM’s Lite I felt like I was almost floating. It inspired me to jump through the air and seem like I was floating through the air.

What inspires or excites you?
Energy really. Energy inside music. Energy in physical contact and movement; nothing’s more exciting than performing my music and jumping into the crowd, with people singing my songs with me.

How would you describe your style?
Aggressive. I will try anything I like. I don’t care what it is and where it’s from. If I like it or think it looks good I will put it on, and if someone told me it was lame or uncool I wouldn’t care. I would stand up for what I’m doing or trying.

Tell us about your first pair of Dr. Martens:
I got my first pair of Doc’s from my brother Josh Madden in NY. I always liked them and he happened to have an all white pair in my size and gave them to me. I was in New York for 2 weeks at the time and I wore them every day. I felt indestructible in them. It was like having tanks on my feet. I could walk through anything, I could kick anything and they were very comfortable. I was hooked. I still have them and wear them. They look even better beat up and broken in.

What do you stand for?
I stand for what’s right. I stand for freedom, freedom of expression. I stand up for anyone of any race, religion, sub-culture, or identity being bullied. I will physically fight against any kind of bullying or oppression.
