DR. MARTENS X HUMBER STREET SESH 2017

On Saturday 5th August, Dr. Martens shall team up with Humber Street Sesh for a day of music buzz in the heart of the Ciy of Culture 2017, Hull. Based on a local original live music night ‘The Sesh‘, this day festival stands for promoting and celebrating the creative excellence and diversity of their community. With over 200 acts including Life, Cheidu Oraka and Luuna, it’s a day not to be missed. You can buy tickets here.

To celebrate, we are giving away x5 pairs tickets for the festival. For a chance to win the tickets visit the Dr. Martens Hull store and sign-up to win before 5:30pm on Wednesday 2nd August*.

Dr. Martens have teamed up with our friends at Stummerville Foundation to host the Strummerville stage at Fruit, where the likes of Serial Chiller and FIRE (The Unstoppable Force) will take centre stage. We shall also be on hand on the day with our DM’s photobooth van, so be sure to look out for us.

We caught up with the man in charge, David ahead of the weekend to find out some insider knowledge…

What is Humber Street Sesh?
Humber Street Sesh is a celebration of the very best emerging bands and acts from across the UK, primarily from the Humber region. Over 200 acts will perform across 14 stages in one day amongst a full arts itinerary, as well as sound systems, skate park, silent disco, funfair and markets, all across Hull Marina. 32,000 people are expected to attend again for our 6th Festival. It’s quite simply the most unique and intense urban festival in the UK.

What was your standout moment from last years Humber Street Sesh?
Being the first event to use the brand new ‘Stage@thedock’ Amphitheatre in Hull. We programmed a full day of activities celebrating Hip Hop. From Breakdancing to Scratch DJ’s, Graffiti, Rap Cyphers and Live PA’s, it was ace. It was that good, we’re doing it again this year.

This is your fifth year now, what can we expect from the day? Anything different this year?
Well 2017, is Hull’s year in the spotlight with it being awarded the UK City Of Culture title. We’re expecting a fair bit of attention this year, and we’re really excited about partnering up with 53 Degrees North who will be hosting a week of Music Industry conferences and workshops leading up to the festival. We’ve also invited a lot more bands and acts from across the UK to help our engagement and to forge networks with other cities this year and with Strummerville back with us for a second year, supported by Dr. Martens, we’re really excited about the line ups on offer. It’s going to be something quite special.

Name three acts you’re looking forward to the most:
There really is too many to name. With over 200 acts playing representing every genre it’s hard to name just three. Personally, I’d have to say Life who will be this year’s headliners on our Main Stage, they epitomise the DIY spirit and have had a huge year, releasing their debut album, playing at SXSW and at Great Escape as well as supporting Slaves across Europe and in the UK. I’d also say POLO on the main stage too, who remind me of an early Portishead and are just delicious live. Finally, I’d go with FIRE (T.U.F) on the Dr. Martens Strummerville Stage who go in with the full theatrics whilst grabbing you by the throat with a full garage onslaught. They’re insane.

What do you stand for?
Humber Street Sesh stands for engagement, passion, and support. It’s a festival that has inspired a city, brought creatives together and provided a really powerful platform for some of the very best emerging bands and acts across the UK.
