Dr. Martens Collaborates

DR. MARTENS X UNITED ARROWS & SONS

We are proud to present a collaboration with respected Japanese fashion retailer United Arrows & Sons. The high-concept store offers street-influenced design and considered garments, an ethos that has informed this limited edition DM’s shoe. The minimalistic remake of our iconic 1461 3-eye shoe style starts with a soft, milkshake-coloured upper, engineered in a waterproof hi suede for practicality.

The yellow stitch found on all DM’s core styles is still present, as is the tough Goodyear welt, here in a tonal colour rather than the traditional black, offering a slick finish. The laces are a contemporary flat style and come in a choice of Milkshake, or DM’s yellow for a pop of colour. An elasticated side gusset offers a modern perspective on this well-loved style, while the shoe is finished with a durable, slip-resistant sole. The shoe’s sock-liner features dual branding from Dr. Martens and United Arrows & Sons and the shoes will come presented in a bespoke shoebox.

To celebrate this limited edition collab we caught up with Poggy, the Creative Director of United Arrows & Sons to find out more about Japanese style and his design ethos…

How would you describe United Arrows & Sons in a sentence?
Sartorial Street Style.

What is it about Japanese style that makes it so popular around the globe?
Having the proper understanding of the traditional fashion such as US’s Ivy style, we are pushing the limit with mixing global fashion essences. I think this makes it unique.

Can you tell us about the collaboration shoe and what inspired the design?
My first DM’s was a pair of Chelsea boots. I thought it would be great to put the gusset part in a 3-hole shoe that goes well with Jacket and suit style.

You’re famous for wearing hats, what are your other personal style tips?
Wearing a hat with a jacket or a suit may look too formal, I take some casual essence into the coordination. Also, the colour of the hat should go well with the colour of the total outfit.

And, what do you stand for?
Hats. (Definitely).
