Having launched the world’s first salon focused on colouring rather than cutting, in less than a decade Bleach London has grown from a single chair and sink in the corner of Wah Nails Dalston, to now running an impressive three standalone salons in the capital. Capturing attention with their pioneering techniques and styles, Bleach London eventually launched their own range of vegan hair dyes and products, with an emphasis on environmental sustainable packaging.
With their eye for all things colour, it was only right that we teamed up with the cutting-edge brand for the launch of our DMs Colour Pop collection earlier this Spring. Following that event in our Oxford St store, we caught up with Ines Morley, Poppy Hughes and Alisha Dobson – three of the lead stylists at Bleach’s Brixton salon, to chat influences, hair dye, and Docs.
What’s your favourite hair dye colour you have created for a client?
IM: I have been having so much fun with peaches recently. It’s been such a popular colour this season – there’s a perfect peach out there for any client so I’ve been loving its versatility.
PH: My favourite would have to be when I did lemon yellow and strawberry pink half and half on someone’s hair. It was fruit salad heaven!
AD: I love doing big colour changes and full transformations. When someone had been dreaming of something for ages and finally goes for it. One of my favourites was a bright yellow root that fades to a pale-yellow end.
What influences your work? Do you find inspiration in any unexpected places?
IM: I find inspiration from many places. Now the weather is turning and the flowers are coming out, I’ve been really inspired by their colours.
PH: I tend to get my inspiration from seeing patterns and colours together in my day to day life. That can be from street fashion to coloured food and nature that has caught my eye! As a team we all share what we’re loving and current inspo which is really nice.
AD: Animal colourings always amaze me, I have a lilac and tan dog and in my head I’m trying to work out how to achieve the colours on hair! Street trends really influence me, and our clientele who are always changing and evolving.
Tell us about your favourite pair of Docs and what would your dream colour be?
IM: My favourite pair of Docs are soft leather with a really cool lace detailing, they are so comfortable especially when I’m on my feet all day at the salon!
PH: My dream pair of Docs would probably be memory foamed soles as I’m on my feet all day. Colour-wise I think black snakeskin would be really sick and would go with most of my wardrobe!
AD: Oooh I have a few, I brought some vintage dark green velvet Docs in Paris a few years ago they were amazing but too small but I had to have them! I love my fur-lined all black ones and my black velvet pair, and my new blue pair – I could go on and on! My dream ones at the moment are the Dr.Martens Reid lace up boots I saw them on a girl and have been obsessed ever since but can’t find them anywhere.
