In My Doc's, Style

IN MY DOC’S: MILO

We love to shine a spotlight on the very cool people who work in our stores and head office because they’re the ones who ‘live’ the rebellious, unique Dr. Martens brand… and know how to seriously rock a pair of Doc’s of course.

We caught up with artist, model and musician Milo from our Neal Street store. Read on to discover more about him and his individual style…

Can you introduce yourself?

Hi! My name is Milo and I’m a Sales Assistant at the Neal Street Store in Covent Garden. I’m an artist and model currently in my final year at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. I also love to produce music.

My style always changes depending on the occasion. I like a lot of things but I’m into gold. Anything with gold on!

What Dr. Martens shoes are you currently rocking?

I’m wearing the classic 1461’s which are my oldest but favourite DM’s because they go with everything!
I am also wearing the Ben Boot with some funky laces and the Church boot too. I like that each shoe can create a completely different style from another.

Do you remember your first pair of Dr. Martens?

The first pair of DM’s I tried on were probably my Mums when I was little, but the 1461s were the first pair I owned. I had blisters everywhere and didn’t think I’d ever get Doc’s again. Now I have hundreds.

How would you describe your style?

My style always changes depending on the occasion. I like a lot of thing but I’m into gold. Anything with gold on. Jimi Hendrix is a bit of a ledge and probably my style icon.

Can you tell us more about the music you produce?

I produce all sorts of genres. I tend to base each sound around the voice of whoever I’m collaborating with, as I don’t usually sing myself. Sometimes this is psychedelic rock, sometimes more chilled electronic music. I used to play in a rock band when I was younger but now I’m concentrating on releasing some solo stuff. I’ll have a new song up on Spotify and various other platforms soon called ‘Heaven or Hell’ under the name Milo Max. In the meantime, check out my mate’s band ‘Beachtape‘, who I encourage everyone to listen to.

What are the 3 tracks your listening to right now?

1. Beachtape – ‘Rearranging my Ways’

2. HOMESHAKE – ‘Call Me Up’

3. LA Priest – ‘Oino’

As well as a musician and artist, your’re also a model?

While I was studying at Central Saint Martins all the fashion students would constantly ask me to be a fitting model, I guess if you’re a tall unusual looking guy then you fit the bill. But it was last year at Reading Festival when I was scouted by various agencies, I finally signed with MiLK Model Management who have looked after me ever since. My favourite thing about modelling is probably doing the catwalk shows where you get to wear completely outrageous outfits.

What’s your favourite thing about the city you live in?

I live in London and I love it. There is always something happening from live music events to art exhibitions. The Barbican Centre is one of my favourite places hang out, also Brick Lane market on a Sunday for the food stalls and vintage clothes.

What are your top three product picks for this season?

This season I’ve got my eye on the Pascal Ripple, the new Adrian Temperley and William Blake 1461.

If you could have any super power, what would it be?

Probably to be able to fly… Although my childhood superheroes were Batman (who doesn’t have any powers) and Wolverine.

And finally, what do you stand for?

I believe in equality. ‘Treat others how you would like to be treated yourself’. Most of my music and art aims to question both equality and diversity within our modern societies, especially in London, which I feel is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world. Being mixed race and having grown up in outside London where racial diversity is not welcomed quite so readily, I am careful not take for granted the positive attitudes that most people here have.
