We love to shine a spotlight on the very cool people who work in our stores and head office. They’re the ones who ‘live’ the rebellious, unique Dr. Martens brand and know how to seriously rock a pair of Doc’s.
Meet Sam, the lead singer of Bedlam Barrio, a band out of Queens, NY. Sam also happens to be part of the crew at our Dr. Martens – Queens Center store. We caught up with him to talk style, his favorite thing about New York City and of course, his favorite Doc’s.
How would you describe your style?
I’d say comfortable but still stylish. I’m not afraid to take chances and try new things and still be me.
What’s your favorite go-to piece of clothing?
My classic red and black flannel. I picked it up at a thrift in NYC back in 2010.
What do you do during your free time?
I’m a singer and a writer for an alternative rock band called Bedlam Barrio, so usually, I’m in the studio recording music or writing music at home. I am currently in Seattle recording our next album, which will be produced by Bradley Walden of Emarosa.
Tell us about your first pair of Dr. Martens.
My first pair were the classic black 1460 boots in Greasy. I am obsessed with them and have been forever.
I wear them on stage — they give me the confidence I need up there, as well as when I’m out and about doing my regular, everyday things.
3 favorite Doc’s styles?
My three favorite styles totally include the black 3989 (pictured above — similar style here), the aforementioned 1460 Greasy and the 101 Brando.
Your favorite thing about New York City?
I must say, the diversity: the food as well as the music. New York is indeed full of so many different cultures and remains the sweet melting pot it’s known to be.
Three songs you can’t get enough of right now?
What do you stand for?
Always being true to myself. Because you have to love yourself before you can say you love any one else.
