Meet John Robb. John was a no-brainer for our new campaign; he’s a well-respected music journalist, runs the Louder Than War website and he’s a member of post punk band The Membranes. Rock ‘n’ roll through-and-through, we’re proud to have this talented guy wear the Vegan 1460 boot.
Where did you grow up?
Blackpool – we used to break our Doc’s in by running in the sea.
You’ve got a varied career – what’s your favourite aspect of it?
Music is everything to me – playing live is the ultimate feeling.
Tell us a bit about your band The Membranes?
We’re a post-punk band formed in Blackpool – we make our own rules – our last album was a double album about the universe. We’ve been playing gigs with choirs… and yet we’re still punk rock.
What does Punk mean to you?
Freedom of expression and an expression of freedom.
When and why did you become vegan?
I’ve been vegetarian since Crass, and I became vegan a decade ago. Living next door to an abattoir and looking into cows’ eyes – combined with punk rock records – made a big impact.
What advice do you have for anyone wanting to embrace veganism?
Learn to cook, take B12 tablets, don’t lecture your friends and wear vegan Doc’s.
Doc’s – practical, sexy and powerful – forever iconic and now vegan.
Do you remember your first pair of Dr. Martens?
It took bottle to wear Doc’s in the punk era – but they were a thing of beauty – practical, sexy and powerful – forever iconic and now vegan.
Finally, what do you stand for?
I stand for high decibel freedom, empowerment, total knowledge, love and giving the world a hug… but more importantly I stand in my DM’s – true soul power.
