MICAH BARNES: #WORNDIFFERENT
Model and dancer Micah Barnes, 26, was an easy choice for our new #WORNDIFFERENT campaign, wearing our new Cynthia boot. A nomad in the true sense, she travels the world for work and still finds time to devote to her new-found passion, dancing.
For those who don’t know you yet, where are you from and what do you do?
I’m Micah and I’m originally from near Bristol – proper countryside – but I grew up all over Europe. I lived in France and Germany among other places as a child. I model full time and recently moved to New York.
How did you get into modelling?
I entered a modelling competition in Portugal and won. I started out doing a lot of sports and fitness modelling then broke into more mainstream modelling.
It’s never too late to start something.
When did you start dancing?
I was quite a late starter – I was 21 or 22 when I started dancing. I’d wanted to be a dancer since I was a little kid but because we moved around so much I never had the chance to do any classes. Now I dance mainly hip hop and I love it. It’s never too late to start something.
How do you balance modelling and dancing?
I just instinctively do it. If you’re freelance then you have to be flexible as plans change all the time. Jobs are cancelled or booked last minute. I couldn’t do a 9-5 though, I love being spontaneous.
Don’t be too serious, and just go for things if you want them.
What do you stand for?
Trying to have as much fun as you can. Laugh. Take as many opportunities as you can. I visited New York for a week and ended up moving there! Don’t be too serious, and just go for things if you want them.
