THE 1460 REMASTERED: DR. MARTENS X RAF SIMONS
For our second collaboration of The 1460 Remastered series, we partnered up with Raf Simons. Our creative relationship has spanned more than a decade. Heavily influenced by music, art and youth subcultures, another collaboration with Simons was a seamless reunion.
Known for his dramatic career change, Simons moved to menswear from furniture design in 1995 after a runway show he was invited to changed his whole perspective on fashion. Fast gained notoriety at his eponymous fashion brand, he went on to work for some of the biggest fashion houses in the industry.
With music and art being two unifying factors that drove Raf Simons’ career, the Belgian creative has carved himself a reputation as one of the world’s most forward-thinking designers.
Never one to conform, Simons has covered our Smooth leather upper with a series of anarchistic punk-style nickel ring — inspired by the customisation trend during the New Romantic/Punk club scene of the late 70s. The placement of the rings is also a nod to the structure of a mid-century design piece, paying homage to Raf Simons’ background in furniture design.
A dual-branded Dr. Martens x Raf Simons logo is embossed on the boot’s ankle cuff to add a finishing detail. With Raf’s passion for Dr. Martens and his flare for channelling youth subcultural aesthetic, the result fuses a nod to rebellious punk culture with avant-garde design.
Check out what goes down behind the scenes and behind the design.
